He Is Risen
This week begins Easter week. As a matter of fact, Sunday was Palm Sunday. The day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. All those who surrounded Jesus sang praises and shouted Hosanna to the Son of David.
As Jesus looked out over Jerusalem he cried, not for his own suffering, but for Jerusalem. We are told in The Desire of Ages that seeing Jerusalem pierced his heart. Jerusalem rejected the Son of God and scorned His love. He came to save Jerusalem; now he must give her up. (Desire of Ages pg. 576)
By the week’s end, Jesus will be betrayed, rejected, beaten, and experience the abyss of being separated from the Father. Finally, He will be crucified. And why? Love! He loves us more than He loves Himself. The magnitude of His love is far beyond our understanding.
Oh but on Sunday morning! Sunday morning, when the women ran to the tomb and found that it was empty. Empty, because he lives, our Jesus lives. He lives, not in a temple, but in every believer's heart.
Weekly Scripture
“The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”
(Matthew 28: 5-6)
