Happy Labor Day!

This weekend, we took time off to celebrate Labor Day. Here’s a bit of history behind the holiday. Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September in the United States. The Labor Day movement began in the 1800s, when industrial workers were often working:

  • 10-12 hours a day

  • Six days a week

  • In dangerous factories, mines, and mills

  • For relatively low wages

  • With few protections against workplace injuries

Because of these unfair practices, workers began organizing labor unions and held demonstrations to demand better working conditions, shorter hours, and fairer wages. As a result, today we celebrate Labor Day.

Highlights

On September 13th, NACS opens the new school year by celebrating with our annual Breakfast on the Beach. This year we will have the event catered. To reduce the cost, we are asking each family to contribute $20 to the event. Donations of water, pastries and fruit trays will be appreciated.

Upcoming Events

Fall pictures are coming up. Students should be in full uniform for their pictures. NACS uses these pictures for the yearbook. Your children are only in their current grade once; I strongly encourage you to purchase your child’s picture. The memories will last forever.

Tutoring begins September 17th. If your child has been recommended for tutoring and you received a permission slip, please have those returned to Principal Green by the 10th of September.

Just a head’s up, this year the conference added two extra staff development days. The first will be September 28th. This will be a non-school day for the students.
