Check out the Announcements and Events for March...
Looking Back
The month of February is recognized as Black History Month, which later became African American Month. The month of February was chosen by Carter G. Woodson, founder of the Association of the Study of African Americans, because it has the birthdays of President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas, who were two individuals prominent in shaping black history.
The students in Dr. Mosby’s 1st and 2nd grades dedicated their chapel to the historical events accomplished by African Americans. The students, who were dressed in the part, shared the stories and accomplishments of Rosa Parks, Condoleezza Rice, Syriana Williams, Charles Drew, Colin Powell, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many more. They did an awesome job!
And Now
NACS kicked off the month of March by marching into literacy with “Read Across American” Week. Read Across America is an annual event celebrated on or near March 2nd, which is the birthday of Dr. Seuss. It is a nationwide, reading celebration that was created by the National Education Association in 1997 to promote literacy and to encourage a love of reading among children. (See email for details regarding Read Across American Week and https://www.read-a-thon.com/.)
On Friday, March 1st, the middle school students went strawberry picking at Farmer Mike’s U-Pick, a market farm in Bonita Springs. They learned about the growing stages of strawberries and tomatoes. Much fun was had racing up and down the rows searching for the best fruit. With baskets overflowing, everyone took home more than a pint of fresh produce.
